What’s Mindfulness Based CBT?
MBCBT is said to be the “third wave” in behavioral and cognitive therapy. It includes Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Functional Analytic Psychotherapy (FAP). The central aim of these therapies is to systematically develop the skill of being present with one’s internal and external experience. Instead of trying to change irrational beliefs, MBCBT utilizes mindfulness and acceptance and offers alternative coping strategies. Acceptance in this context refers to focusing on the current moment and accepting what is experienced without judgment.
